Independent Study (295) courses provide students the opportunity to study and investigate areas of interest not available through normal course offerings. A 295 course is taken on the recommendation of the student’s adviser and with the approval of the program director.  Normally, no more than six credits

of 295 course work can be included in a master’s degree program.

In order to enroll in a 295 course, students must complete an Approval for Independent Study Course 295 form, which can be filled out on-line at:

http://www.marquette.edu/registrar/documents/295Form.pdf.  This form can be filled out long-hand by downloading this document.

In addition to the approval form, students must also complete an Independent Study Course Contract, which can be downloaded here.

The procedure for enrolling in a 295 course is as follows:

1.  Student and course director define course and document in the Independent Study Course Contract.

2.  Student completes and signs Independent Study Course Contract and Approval for Independent Study forms.

2.  Student has course director (instructor) review and sign both forms.

3.  Student has advisor sign both forms.

4.  Student has ENMA Program Director sign both forms.

5.  Program Director forwards both forms to the Graduate School.
